Everyone knows what that orange triangle on the back of a slow moving vehicle means! Theres no doubt that anyone who has driven through the lovely rolling hills in Amish Country has found themselves suddenly following behind a buggy like this. Please use caution, slow down and enjoy the the quiet, peaceful way of the Amish.
My husband and I had the pleasure of visiting Homes County a few days ago here in Ohio.better known as Amish Country. A leisurely drive through the country is a great stress reliever as it brings us to a way of life that moves at the speed of a clippity-clop.

I’ve enjoyed art in one form or another since I was old enough to pick up a crayon and scribble on a wall. As early as third grade, I began blending colors and using shade to create form. Balancing marriage, motherhood and a full time career, there was only time enough to dabble in the fine arts. My 43 years as a sign artist afforded me a daily outlet for creativity. Now that I’m retired, I want to direct my creativity towards watercolor. It’s been a real challenge for me to break away from the very technical art form of sign making but the fluidity of the watercolor medium is helping me to do that. My subject matter is varied and my work is a unique combination of realist, impressionist and postimpressionist styles and...

This picture tells a story Marsha. It is very clever and well done. Simplicity itself! you can tell it is an Amish carriage--you can tell by the bonnet in the window and the horse which you can't see but know it is there.I love it!!!
Marsha Elliott replied:
This made my day....what a wonderful comment, Val. Thank you so much!!!

Ken Powers
Great title and techniques used for this one Marsha! Very nice work!
Marsha Elliott replied:
Thanks, Ken. Maybe they should have a group on here or a contest for the greatest titles! I love looking at the titles of paintings done by others as sometimes they say more than the painting itself.
Angela Davies
I love the title for this charming watercolor. Your shadows and sunlight are awesome. I especially like the blending of color on the back of the buggy! Bravo, this is simply amazing! F/V
Marsha Elliott replied:
The title of this one is so important and a reminder for those in cars and trucks to slow way down when in Amish country....there's just far too many accidents taking place. Thank you for your wonderful comment.
Jenny Armitage
Ah, the Amish. Haven't been to Pensyvania for 20 years. Love the graphic feel and the shadows.
Marsha Elliott replied:
Thank you, Jenny. Actually, we have a large settlement of Amish right here in Ohio so that's where this scene is from as well as my last painting.
Randy Sprout
Great Shadows!!!
